A Date Night In

When the lovely folks at menswear company Jacamo asked if I’d like to be part of their campaign “Let your shoes do the talking“, I was sceptical. It would involve a date night in complete with instructions and a hamper full of goodies to help Jorge organise a surprise evening for me. Would he go for it? Would he let me write about it? What would be inside this magical hamper of romance?

My curiosity got the best of me (and Jorge was very cooperative). Afterall, what can beat a date night in on a wet, cold Tuesday evening in March? These guys are on a mission to give men the chance to show their romantic side, so I’m all for supporting that!

According to Jorge’s instructions, he was first supposed to run me a bath and pop in for a shoulder massage halfway through. Unfortunatley (because bubble baths are one of my most favourite things), we do not have a bathtub in our tiny central London flat. Whenever we stay in a hotel, the first requirement is a bathtub… so I will be squirreling away the bottle of mango and papaya bubble bath for a future occasion. Sounds like a good enough excuse for a tropical holiday to me, right?

He did follow the next step which was to cook me a lovely dinner (which included some goodies that a friend recently brought from Spain). Jacamo popped a few mini bottles of prosecco in for us to enjoy too.

In the hamper was also a candle and a film for after dinner relaxation. We’d both seen the film – “Love & Other Drugs” – but a lighthearted comedy was definitely in order. We found the latest episode of “Jane the Virgin” which has been amusing us these days. We definitely indulged in the big box of chocolates while we watched.

Oh, and there was a cheesy “Sweet Nothings and Pillow Talk” book with lines like “With a wife like you, every night is like date night” and “Want to help me get banned on Instagram?” which was good for a laugh.

I think one of life’s little luxuries is being able to do really silly things together and not take everything so seriously. So, while I don’t think romance can really be forced, go, Jacamo, for making an effort! We had fun.

Great excuse for a middle of the week date night! Sounds fun and silly, but the idea is there and you can easily edit it to your tastes/styles.
