Spain’s Everyday Luxuries

There’s a campaign going on right now called “Whatever I need, I need Spain.” It’s about encouraging tourists to visit the country, to help revive an economy that – let’s face it – could really use a boost.

Having married a Spaniard, I’ve met many wonderfully warm and passionate Spanish people in recent years. Many are now living in the UK simply because there are more jobs here. Most of those expats I’ve spoken to would love to return if the economy picked up.

If I can see Jorge and I living anywhere outside of the UK in the future, it would likely be in Spain. And so, as the country has inched its way into my life, my interest in it has grown. So in support of a campaign that’s close to our hearts, I’ve asked a few Spanish friends and friends who have spent some time living in Spain one question:

What are the everyday luxuries, the little things about being in Spain that make you happy?

I was overwhelmed by the number of people who responded and the pride that went in to those answers. You’ll see many of them include food, weather and simply the Spanish people.

If you’re Spanish or you’ve lived in Spain (or just visited), join the Twitter conversation with #whateverineedspain.

I’ll end with a very short video clip from Turespaña who sponsored this post and a hope that the economy does pick up again because judging by the comments from our friends above, it would be a wonderful place to live. In the meantime, visiting still carries all the perks!

PS – Here are some more posts about Spain from the Little Observationist archives.
