In the spirit of the season and because I know that I, for one, can always use a little getaway holiday after the holidays, I’ve agreed to team up with Travelodge and give away two night’s stay in any UK Travelodge of your choice!
Naturally, this got me thinking about where I would go. After much contemplation, I think I would head back up to Edinburgh because Scotland might be cold, but it’s magical in the Winter.
Two years ago for my birthday, Jorge and I spent a weekend there, which I realize I never shared on the blog because it was just before I switched over to Little Observationist.
He took me out for a delicious dinner at The Witchery, which I’d highly recommend (it’s definitely worth a splurge, especially if you’re getting a few free night’s accommodation) and I had a wonderful spa morning as well. It’s a charming city with little boutique shops, some cobbled streets and excellent food.
If you win and you do choose Edinburgh (it’s totally up to you), take a little ride out to Roslin, one of my favourite places in the world (<–look at the photos in that link and you’ll see why). I first visited about 10 years ago while I was in the UK as a study abroad student. We stayed in a castle and explored the grounds and the famous Roslin Chapel from The DaVinci Code. It held a lot of wonderful memories. When I found out that Jorge’s sister lived there in this little village outside the city it was such a coincidence because I thought I’d never go back there. But on that trip to Edinburgh, we did. And we walked around the same castle grounds. It’s one of the most beautiful slices of nature, full of history, stories and places to explore.
The giveaway will go on until December 18 and then I’ll contact the random winner via email. Good luck everyone! And leave a comment to let me know where you’d most like to stay!

December 9, 2014 at 2:33 pmI just starting following and this post came at a great time. We will be traveling from the states next summer with kids in tow for the first time. The fact that these hotels have “family” rooms is a great alternative I did not expect! Not sure of the location (because we’ve never been there) but the Central Princess st. seems like a great choice on paper. Thanks again and love your point of view 🙂

December 13, 2014 at 4:34 pmWonderful! It’s such a great city to explore. Have you been before? I love San Francisco, by the way. It’s been a long time since I’ve been there and I’m itching to go back!

December 14, 2014 at 11:22 pmI spent a few months in London a life time ago but I never did make it to Edinburgh. We are super excited. San Francisco has gone through several metamorphosis since I left. Every time I go back to visit, the energy is different. It’s a great city but just like any city, it has its not so great things. Luckily the one thing that has not changed since my high school days is “the best” sandwich place in the “whole” world: Submarine Center in West Portal. The same folks and the same look and, thankfully, the same amazing flavors 🙂

December 12, 2014 at 4:44 pmWhat a lovely giveaway! I’d definitely head to Edinburgh, I lived there while attending graduate school and the city will always have my heart. If I won I’d take my little brother up to show him around in the spring when I visit him in London during his study abroad! Cheers!
